About Me
David Engelhard is a New York City–based saxophonist, pianist, and bandleader known for his dual life as both a busy performer and a trusted musical director and contractor for weddings and corporate events. He regularly performs at private events across the country and abroad including Nantucket, Aragosta at Goose Cove, the New York Historical Society, Daytona Beach, High Point (NC), the Four Seasons Tamarind in Mexico, and Harbour Island in the Bahamas. David also provides full musical direction for artist shows throughout New York City, with recent productions presented at venues such as the Triad Theater and Joe’s Pub with notable NYC jazz vocalists.
Originally from Atlanta, David earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Queens College. Earlier in his musical development he studied with notable mentors including Antonio Hart, Ari Hoenig, David Sanchez, David Binney, Donny McCaslin, and Aaron Goldberg. His touring work with the Zac Brown Band included the Live at the Fabulous Fox Theater DVD and high-profile appearances at the Country Music Awards alongside Gregg Allman and Tom Scott. He has also performed with artists such as John Mayer and Scott Weiland.
A versatile composer, David writes across a wide range of styles from electronic and experimental works to solo saxophone compositions and interdisciplinary collaborations. His pieces have been presented at venues like La MaMa Theater, and he composed a commemorative solo work for Chinua Achebe that was performed at the United Nations.
David has taught a variety of Jazz Improvisation classes at the New York Jazz Academy and offers private instruction both in NYC and online.
